This 2-hour course dives into the specific needs of premature infants. We'll explore their developmental immaturity and how human milk and skin-to-skin care offer unique benefits. Learn strategies to maximize milk production in parents of preemies, including hands-on pumping techniques. We'll discuss typical feeding progression for very preterm babies and the rationale behind adding fortifiers to human milk. The course explores the use of donor milk in the NICU and the benefits of using test weights to monitor bodyfeeding progress. Finally, you'll gain the skills to design a personalized feeding plan for families with a premature infant.

Due to upcoming changes in IBLCE guidelines, this course will no longer offer CERPs starting in 2026. The full course
Foundations for Best Practice in Lactation Care will continue to qualify for CERPs; however, its individual modules will no longer be eligible for CERPs when taken separately.
