The Golden Hour: Optimizing Lactation after Birth

Price: $45

This 2.5-hour course equips you to support successful chestfeeding initiation. We'll explore the natural newborn behaviours that promote immediate latching after birth on the birthing parent's abdomen. Learn to identify birthing routines that might hinder bodyfeeding success. We'll delve into the benefits of skin-to-skin contact for both parent and baby. The course discusses common causes of low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) in newborns and how medications like narcotics and anaesthesia can impact parent-infant interaction. Furthermore, you'll gain insights into hospital practices that promote exclusive breastfeeding/chestfeeding and learn practical techniques for providing skin-to-skin care, even after a caesarean birth.

Important Update Regarding CERPs Eligibility
Due to upcoming changes in IBLCE guidelines, this course will no longer offer CERPs starting in 2026. The full course
Foundations for Best Practice in Lactation Care will continue to qualify for CERPs; however, its individual modules will no longer be eligible for CERPs when taken separately.

If you plan to purchase this course, please ensure you complete it by December 31, 2025 to receive CERPs.

Please note: This course will still count toward IBCLC certification requirements and RN continuing education credits.

I agree with the idea that skin to skin is best for a multiple different reasons. I love the idea of going from nursing tasks to nursing care.
Straight-forward ideas for making successful breastfeeding easier right after birth!
This course offers good information for nurses working in an environment that is not already Baby Friendly.
